CINDY MARTEN’S RECORD ON EQUITY DESERVES A CLOSER LOOK
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Biden Administration announced Cindy Marten as the nominee for Deputy Secretary of Education. Marten currently serves as the superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD)—where her record on civil rights has drawn criticism and formal complaints from local parents and activists, as well as from the San Diego Chapter of the NAACP. During her time as SDUSD Superintendent, Black male students have been suspended and expelled at disproportionate rates, the district was out of compliance with English learner requirements, sexual assaults went unreported, funds were misappropriated, and students with disabilities were denied services. As parents, we are outraged.
We cannot—and will not—allow Cindy Marten to go to Washington and do more harm.

It's time to start listening to the voices of real San Diego parents, families, and educators when it comes to @BeKindDreamBig's record as superintendent. Please do not send her to @usedgov! #NoMarten
